DDoS Strikes European Parliament Site

Category: Threat Actor Activity | Industry: Government | Level: Strategic | Source: BleepingComputer

A pro-Russian hacktivist group identifying themselves as 'Anonymous Russia' has initiated a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack against the European Parliaments website. The high-volume attack caused an outage rendering the site unavailable. During the attack, an error message “Secure Connection Failed,” was presented to site visitors. This attack follows shortly after the European Parliament designated Russia as a state sponsor for terrorism citing increased attacks the state has taken against Ukrainian infrastructure, education districts, hospitals, and energy infrastructure. Among pro-Kremlin groups, Killnet and Anonymous Russia, have been some of the most active carrying out DDoS attacks. In addition, researchers from Cyble have discovered the development of a ransomware encryptor by Killnet that can be added to their offensive campaigns.
