Ransomware Forces Closure of Lincoln College

After 157 years of academic services in Illinois, liberal-arts school, Lincoln College will be ceasing operations and closing after the spring semester on May 13th, 2022. The institution was already suffering from finances lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic however, a ransomware attack was the last straw. A message provided on the college website reads "Lincoln College was a victim of a cyberattack in December 2021 that thwarted admissions activities and hindered access to all institutional data, creating an unclear picture of Fall 2022 enrollment projections." Impacts on the college's systems were significant rendering "all systems required for recruitment, retention, and fundraising efforts inoperable." The college assured no personal information was exposed. Projections observed by the college painted a bleak unsustainable financial outlook for the academic institution.
