Blackbyte Ransomware Hits NFL 49ers
A spokesperson for the NFL team San Francisco 49ers disclosed a ransomware attack by BlackByte ransomware operators to news outlets The Record and BleepingComputer. The 49ers are working to recover impacted systems and believe the incident is limited to their corporate IT network, with no indication of impact on Levi’s Stadium operations or ticket holders. The team is engaging with law enforcement and third-party cybersecurity firms to assist with the investigation.
Russian and Ukraine - Cyber Alert
With escalating Russia-Ukraine tensions, US regulators and the European Central Bank warn banks of potential Russian cyber-attacks. The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) urges companies to increase vigilance and adopt heightened cybersecurity measures to prepare for potential threats amid the ongoing conflict.
Cybereason Threat Analysis Report
Cybereason's GSOC team reports on attack scenarios involving IcedID, QBot, and Emotet loaders leading to Cobalt Strike compromises. Attributed to Conti ransomware affiliates, these attacks often start with phishing emails and deploy Cobalt Strike within two hours, using LOLBins and novel techniques like Rubeus and HiveNightmare exploitation.
Sugar Ransomware
The Walmart Security Team identified Sugar Ransomware, a new Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) in November 2021. This RaaS targets individual devices and small businesses, demanding only a few hundred dollars. It utilizes the SCOP encryption algorithm and shares design similarities with Cl0p ransomware's ransom page.
Swissport International Ransomware Attack
Swissport International, a leading aviation services provider, disclosed a ransomware attack on February 4th, 2022. The attack disrupted IT infrastructure, causing flight delays and website issues. Despite the attack, ground services remained operational with potential delays. The ransomware gang and data compromised are still unknown.
SEO Poisoning dropping malware
Mandiant Managed Defense reports an SEO poisoning campaign distributing BATLOADER malware and ATERA software. Malicious webpages use Traffic Direction System (TDS) to evade detection, with infection chains involving native tools and DLL files. Techniques overlap with the Conti playbooks, but attribution remains unknown.
