Barcelona Hospital Cancels Appointments After Cyber Attack

On Monday, March 6th, 2023, the primary hospital located in Barcelona, Hospital Clinic de Barcelona experienced a ransomware attack, leading to the cancellation of its scheduled appointments. According to the El País newspaper, officials stated around 150 non-urgent surgeries and up to 3,000 patient checkups, including radiotherapy visits, were canceled on Monday. This is because hospital staff cannot access patients' clinical records due to the ransomware attack. The regional Catalonian Cybersecurity Agency claims "partners" for the Ransom House ransomware gang to be responsible for the attack. On the group's data leak site, the Ransom House denies any direct involvement in the attack. The secretary of telecommunications for the government of Catalonia, Segi Marcén states the hospital has not received a ransom demand and the hospital has no intentions of paying.
