Pro-Russia Led DDoS Attacks Draws Concern from Denmark and U.S. Agencies

Category: Threat Actor Activity | Industries: Financial Services, Government, Healthcare | Level: Strategic | Source: The Record

A series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) initiated by pro-Russian hacking groups against verticals in financial, hospital, and government websites have raised alarms from Denmark and the United States. Denmark’s Centre for Cyber Security announced on Twitter, the organization is "raising the threat level for cyber risk against Denmark, among other things on the basis of pro-Russian activist hacker groups’ high level of activity against NATO countries." Shortly following the posting of their tweet, the website for Denmark's Centre for Cyber Security was rendered unavailable. For the United States, a notice was released by the Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center (HC3), identifying the hacktivist group 'KillNet' as a leading instigator of DDoS attacks against the U.S. healthcare industry. DDoS attacks exhibited by Russian forces have increased in volume, power, and severity, capable of causing serious outages to an organization. Russian threat actors such as Killnet and NoName057(16) have established Telegram channels to help organize and launch DDoS attacks. They've recruited volunteers and even rewarded top contributors.
