US Federal Government initiative to protect Water Systems

In an effort, to improve the defense of US critical infrastructure, the US government and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are initiating a new "action plan" focusing on securing the water sector. The plan is to encourage owners and operators to strengthen cyber defense technologies. As part of the initiative, a pilot program has been set up by the EPA and CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency), at the Department of Homeland Security, to enable ICS monitoring and cooperation with participating entities. The Strengthening the defense of any critical infrastructure is vital, as the water sector involves over 150,000 systems that provide for three hundred million Americans.
