All Threat Reports
Follina Vulnerability Targets Government Entities
ProofPoint has detected the exploitation of CVE-2022-30190/Follina in phishing campaigns targeting European and US government entities. The attackers use malicious RTF documents, luring victims with promises of salary increases. Upon execution, a PowerShell script downloads the attacker's payload, gathering reconnaissance data. Attribution is currently unknown, though ProofPoint suggests a state-aligned actor.
8220 Gang Exploits Atlassian Zero-Day for Cyptomining
The 8220 gang exploited a recently patched Atlassian zero-day, CVE-2022-26134, to install cryptominers. CheckPoint details the attack targeting Linux and Windows, using PowerShell for Windows and creating system persistence.
Blackcat Ransomware Hits Alexandria, Louisiana
On June 2, 2022, the city of Alexandria, Louisiana, was targeted by BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware. The attackers claimed to have stolen 80GB of city data. Despite the breach, city operations continue as scheduled. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards was directly addressed and mocked in the attacker's post, referencing a similar 2019 ransomware attack. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Analysis of Lockbit 2.0 Impact
Palo Alto Unit 42 reports Lockbit 2.0 as the leading ransomware in 2022, causing 46% of breaches. Major targets include the legal, construction, and retail sectors, with the U.S. being the hardest hit.
Federal Agencies Shutdown SSNDOB Marketplace
On June 7, 2022, federal agencies, in coordination with Cyprus and Latvia, shut down the SSNDOB Marketplace, a cybercrime site selling stolen personal information, including social security numbers. The marketplace generated over $19 million in sales revenue and contained data on more than 24 million U.S. residents. The shutdown aims to prevent identity fraud and protect victims.
Bumblebee Loader Pairs with Quantum Ransomware
Kroll's Cyber Risk tracking of Bumblebee loader has identified its use in Quantum Locker's ransomware campaigns. Bumblebee serves as the initial infection vector, leading to the download of Cobalt Strike and subsequent ransomware deployment within 22 hours. The campaigns typically start with phishing emails or web contact forms, delivering the Bumblebee payload within an ISO file containing a shortcut (LNK) and DLL file. Upon execution, the DLL file downloads Bumblebee, which creates persistence through a scheduled task. Bumblebee includes features such as using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) for reconnaissance, executing commands via PowerShell or Wscript, process injection, and C2 communication.
