All Threat Reports
VMware Workspace ONE Access Vulnerabilities
On April 14th and 15th, 2022, Morphisec identified the exploitation of VMware Workspace ONE Access vulnerabilities, with CVE-2022-22954 being the most critical. These vulnerabilities allow attackers to deploy ransomware, coin miners, and backdoors like Cobalt Strike. The tactics observed are similar to those used by the Iranian threat group Rocket Kitten.
Red Canary's Intelligence Insights
Red Canary's March 2022 intelligence insights reveal Impacket as the top threat, with shifts in rankings for other threats. Notable changes include SocGholish dropping to #8, Emotet rising to #6, and Qbot adjusting its delivery techniques to use MSI packages after Microsoft's VBA macros block.
Ransomware Attack Techniques
Symantec analyzes ransomware groups Hive, Conti, and Avoslocker, identifying common TTPs. Initial access involves RDP exploits and phishing. Persistence is maintained with AnyDesk and firewall modifications. Tools like ADRecon are used for discovery, while Mimikatz aids in credential access. Lateral movement utilizes PsExec and WMI, and data exfiltration employs RClone and FileZilla.
Stormous Ransomware Breaches Coca-Cola
Stormous ransomware claims to have breached Coca-Cola's network, exfiltrating 161GB of data, including admin credentials and payment information. The group is selling the data for 1.65 Bitcoin. Coca-Cola is investigating the claim, which follows a poll by Stormous targeting Coca-Cola with the most votes among other companies.
New Black Basta, Ransomware Gang
The Black Basta ransomware gang emerged in April 2022, compromising 12 organizations and using double extortion tactics. Research suggests a potential rebrand of the Conti group. The gang lists ten victims on their site, with several likely negotiating or paying to have their listings removed.
Log4Shell Vulnerability Vast & Abundant
The Log4Shell vulnerability, first identified in December 2021, remains widespread and largely unpatched. Research from Rezilion indicates that 60% of affected packages are still vulnerable, with ongoing downloads of unpatched Log4j versions. Despite its severity and ease of exploitation, factors such as lack of awareness and third-party software dependencies contribute to the persistence of the vulnerability. Threat groups like HAFNIUM, APT35, Tunnel Vision, and APT41/Deep Panda are actively attempting to exploit it.
