Log4Shell Vulnerability Vast & Abundant
The Log4Shell vulnerability, first identified in December 2021, remains widespread and largely unpatched. Research from Rezilion indicates that 60% of affected packages are still vulnerable, with ongoing downloads of unpatched Log4j versions. Despite its severity and ease of exploitation, factors such as lack of awareness and third-party software dependencies contribute to the persistence of the vulnerability. Threat groups like HAFNIUM, APT35, Tunnel Vision, and APT41/Deep Panda are actively attempting to exploit it.
Austin Peay State University Ransomware Attack
A ransomware attack disrupted Austin Peay State University on April 27, 2022, prompting an urgent campus-wide alert to disconnect from the network. While the threat was reportedly contained and didn’t interrupt classes or exams, the responsible ransomware group was never identified.
Conti Ransomware Hits Costa Rica Electricity
Junta Administrativa del Servicio Eléctrico de Cartago (JASEC), a government agency controlling electricity in Cartago, Costa Rica, has been impacted by Conti ransomware. The attack occurred on Saturday, targeting systems managing the company's emails, website, and administrative collection systems, which were encrypted.
